- Product data: Each item in your catalog includes its weight and dimensions as packed per unit.
- Box inventory: All your available box sizes are stored in 2Ship’s Packages Table, with details like internal dimensions, box wall thickness, padding allowance (e.g., for bubble wrap or spacing), and maximum weight capacity.
The Goal: Minimize Volume, Maximize Savings
Shipping carriers now charge based on dimensional (volumetric) weight or actual weight, whichever is higher. This means the size of the box you ship in often affects your freight costs more than the weight inside it.
Item2Box automatically calculates:
- The fewest number of boxes needed to fulfill the order.
- The best-fitting box size(s) based on your packaging rules.
- The total dimensional weight and actual weight of each resulting shipment.
